Mr. Smith Just Can’t Stop The Feeling?

Have we ever seen Mr. Smith and Justin Timberlake in the same room? This shocking realization makes us question the identity of our favorite *NSYNC boy band heartthrob and our beloved IB English teacher, Mr. Smith. Maybe, it is possible that Mr. Smith has been living a double life all along, moonlighting as none other than Justin Timberlake...

Throughout his discography, Timberlake has given us unlimited hints of his secret identity as an English teacher. In his hit song, “Mirrors,” the lyrics slip partial evidence to this life, singing: “It's like you're my mirror (oh) my mirror staring back at me”. Perhaps, he’s staring at himself in the mirror, grappling with who he should be: the famous singer/songwriter who also voices the main character in Trolls or the humble English teacher who teaches IB students how to appreciate an author’s author’s craft in the modest walls of Sonora. Additionally, such masterful usage of metaphor is akin to Mr. Smith’s saucy use of language, while Timberlake’s overall steller songwriting abilities hint at a greater knowledge of literature, perhaps a Masters Degree?? In the same song, he also expresses: “I’m lookin' right at the other half of me.” This particular other half of him could be his other identity since he’s living a life as two separate people. Without a doubt, this comes right back to the incriminating conclusion that he is looking at himself in the mirror, simultaneously seeing Timberlake and Smith.

In another well-known Justin Timberlake song titled “What Goes Around Comes Around,” the artist discusses an unnamed person’s lies, belting: “Cause I know that you're living a lie”. To conceal the song’s true meaning, he turned the song around in the direction of someone else, when he was obviously talking about his own life as a lie. Mr. Timberlake later states in the song: “The funny thing about that is, I was ready to give you my name”. Timberlake is directly addressing the public with this specific lyric, wanting to stop living his life under a lie, giving everyone his authentic name: Jared Smith.

On a realistic note, Mr. Smith only spends 6 hours of his day inside the classroom, so what else can he do with his spare time...perhaps living life as a singer and actor under the persona of Justin Timberlake?? Think of the three months of freedom he has during the summer; he’s most likely planning his next Timberlake world tour. Not only does he have this cornucopia of spare time during the summer, but quarantine has caused Mr. Smith to have even more time on his hands. Thus, he can be brainstorming his next number-one single as he gives us directions during class.

The bubbly, amusing Mr. Smith we find in the classroom is also the captivating heartthrob we see on the stage and in movies. Based on physical features, there is an obvious resemblance. They both have nice combovers, full beards, and almond eyes. If they aren’t the same person, then the only reasonable explanation would be twins separated at birth.

Even some Sonora teachers buy into this not-so-conspiratorial theory. When asked about the subject, the darling Mr. Hardy notes that “Mr. Smith reminds me of Justin Timberlake in his exuberant style, youthful demeanor, and trendsetting attitude”. How shocking! To further this confirmation of the theory, I polled Sonora students about the issue via Instagram, bringing in 66 responses. The results of the poll determined that a staggering 91% of these students believe Mr. Smith and Justin Timberlake are the same person. We were not surprised by this outcome!

Moreover, it is quite suspicious how Justin Timberlake purchased his LA home in 2010, plenty of time to plan his teaching career in California. Coincidentally, as he joined the educational profession, Justin Timberlake starred in the movie titled, Bad Teacher; he knew what he was doing with this one--Timberlake has subliminally been telling us about his second life this entire time!

Within all this, we still withstand our doubt. Share your truth, Timberlake, and reveal your true identity as Mr. Smith!
