How to Socialize: Cohort C Style

As of February 16, Sonora resumed a hybrid schedule with three cohorts. Cohort A appears Mondays and Thursdays, while Cohort B attends every Tuesday and Friday. Then there’s Cohort C, remaining fully online. As comfortable as sitting at home is, how will these kids meet their classmates? How can they build new friendships? Well luckily, many students and teachers have built online platforms to give these kids the chance to interact virtually with their peers.   

 

Over several social media platforms, students have created platforms to virtually meet friends or new students. Recently, students created an Instagram account for the Sonora class of 2023, adding a platform for the sophomores of this year to interact. There are also many other Sonora-centered accounts all over Instagram, run by students of all different grades, such as (but not limited to) Sonora ASB, Sonora journalism (they’re super cool), Sonora Yearbook, and many more!

 

Juniors Karla Fuentes and Elizabeth Kronick used another platform called Discord to create a server that allows students to meet with fellow classmates. This server is fairly new, but it allows students in the same classes and grade levels to communicate over text and voice chats. They’ve created chats to relax, play games, study, tutor, and entertain in many other ways.

 

If social media is not something you like, there are still many school clubs meeting online regularly. On the Sonora High School Webpage, there are a couple clubs to choose from; if you feel you would like more information or would like to join, contact the club advisor listed and feel free to ask as many questions as you’d like! For other clubs that may be unlisted, ask around! For example, if you would like to learn about Journalism (the greatest club ever), Mr. Smith is the club advisor and would gladly give more information to anyone interested!

So, to those of you who are in Cohort C: You got this! Stay strong, sit back in your chairs, stay hydrated, and keep yourselves busy! This is a pretty scary time for all of us, but it’s almost over! Just think of it when it’s done; we’ll be the generation of heroes who SINGLE-HANDEDLY SAVED THE HUMAN RACE FROM COMPLETE ANNIHILATION OF A DEADLY DISEASE… or something along those lines.
